Gucci Dionysus Medium Bag

The Gucci Dionysus collection takes its name from Dionysus, the Greek god of wine, which is why it’s also called the “Dionysus Bag”.

In Renaissance painter Titian’s masterpiece “Bacchus and Ariadne”, the god of wine travels the world in a chariot drawn by two tigers and falls in love with the nymph Ariadne. The double tiger head clasp is inspired by this romantic mythological story.

The first Dionysus bag debuted at Gucci’s Fall/Winter 2015 menswear show, which was creative director Alessandro Michele’s first major show after taking the helm. In the subsequent Fall/Winter 2015 womenswear collection, the Dionysus bag became an overnight sensation.

In the Fall/Winter 2016 womenswear collection, Alessandro Michele added a bamboo handle to the Dionysus bag, creating this “Dionysus Bamboo Top Handle” version. The bamboo handle, introduced in 1947, remains one of the brand’s most iconic elements.

The trapezoidal shape features clean lines that create structural definition. The pleated sides provide ample capacity while maintaining a compact silhouette.

Crafted from navy blue textured leather, the material undergoes a heat-pressing process that creates natural grain patterns. This treatment enhances the leather’s durability while preserving its soft texture.

The double tiger head clasp is adorned with Swarovski crystals, adding brilliant sparkle.

The bamboo handle features a graceful curve. After undergoing heating and lacquering processes, it offers a smooth, comfortable grip. Vintage-style metal rings securely attach it to the bag, combining durability with retro charm.
