The PRADA 1913 Bag
PRADA 1913 Bag reimagines the archival design originally created by founder Mario Prada in 1913. Crafted from Re-Nylon recycled material, this contemporary interpretation features hand-carved clasps depicting mythological figures, reflecting the designer’s creative interpretation of ancient Eastern artistic aesthetics.

· Design Inspiration ·

The PRADA 1913 Bag debuted in the 2024 Spring/Summer women’s collection, drawing inspiration from Mario Prada’s 1913 archival design. While the original was crafted from moiré silk, this contemporary version features black soft leather and recycled nylon, with pleating techniques creating cloud-like volume that reinterprets archival designs through a modern lens.

In 1913, Mario & Martino Prada founded Fratelli Prada in Milan. An avid traveler, Mario Prada journeyed worldwide sourcing exotic items and materials, collaborating with European artisans to create luxury objects he called “oggetti di lusso” – including British silverware, Austrian handbags, Bohemian crystal, and Asian silks.

The most striking feature is the hand-carved wooden mythological figure clasp, reportedly inspired by “the mysterious ancient Eastern culture,” reflecting 19th century Western fascination with Orientalism. The tongue-protruding mythical figure finds parallels in Japanese yokai lore and Chinese Taoist mythology.

· Frame Purse Structure ·
The bag follows the classic Frame Purse silhouette originating from late 19th century Victorian era, designed to carry mirrors, perfume bottles, glasses, and handkerchiefs for social occasions, often adorned with embroidery, prints, or jewels.

The elegant curved frame features polished silver metal with hinged opening that swings wide for easy access.

· Re-Nylon Material ·
The bag replaces the original moiré silk with Re-Nylon recycled fabric, using pleating techniques to create voluminous, cloud-like contours. The arched handle gives the impression of mythological figures performing ballet – quirky yet charming.

As Prada’s signature fabric, nylon embodies the brand’s core identity. Prada Re-Nylon sources materials from recycled ocean plastics, fishing nets, landfill textiles, and fiber waste, transformed through depolymerization into new yarn that can be infinitely recycled, significantly reducing environmental impact.

Beyond sustainability, nylon offers lightweight durability and water resistance, creating an intriguing contrast with the bag’s vintage aesthetic and mythological elements.

· What Fits Inside? ·
Weighing just 200g, the bag feels nearly weightless. The soft nylon offers generous space, with a leather compartment at back for cards, keys, and essentials.

We fit a compact mirror, phone, tissues, cardholder, lipstick, perfume, earbuds, hair ties, and keys – everything needed for daily outings or special events. The elegant frame purse works equally well as an evening clutch or quirky Halloween accessory.
