Louis Vuitton collaborates with Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama to present a new collection. This Square Bag is an exclusive piece for China, featuring Kusama’s iconic polka dots on pure white grained leather. Yayoi Kusama: The Polka Dot Visionary
Now 93 years old, Yayoi Kusama is regarded as one of the most successful living female artists of the 21st century. Born in 1929 in Matsumoto, Japan, she gained recognition during the 1950s-60s in Tokyo and New York. Polka dots are her signature artistic element, representing both infinite paths and her concept of “self-obliteration”.

This marks Louis Vuitton’s first collaboration with Kusama since 2012. The new collection explores the theme “Creating Infinity”, transforming her colorful artistic style into bags, ready-to-wear, luggage, and fragrances.
The Cubic Design
The Square Bag debuted at the 2018 Spring/Summer Women’s Show as a modern interpretation of LV’s classic vanity case. Creative Director Nicolas Ghesquière reinvented the silhouette with a perfect cube structure, positioning the handle at the top corner for balanced carrying.
Measuring 16×16×16cm, the geometric design features leather piping for structure and a centered dual-way zipper for easy access.
Silk-Screened Dots & Grained Leather
The polka dots are applied through silk-screen printing to create subtle texture. Each bag was personally supervised by Kusama to ensure perfect replication of her artistic vision.
The white Taurillon grained calfskin provides the ideal background, with embossed Monogram patterns subtly appearing under certain lighting. The lightweight, scratch-resistant leather enhances practicality.
What Fits Inside?
The cubic structure offers surprising capacity for thicker items. The rotating metal rings allow flexible handle positioning, while the nearly full-length zipper ensures easy access.
The microfibre lining features a cheerful yellow color with a pumpkin-shaped LV x YK gold foil logo on the back pocket.
