· Yayoi Kusama and Pumpkins ·

The pumpkin has been a central theme throughout Yayoi Kusama’s artistic career. She describes it as “a humble yet spiritual and resolute form” that serves as a talisman. Over decades, Kusama has portrayed pumpkins in various mediums including paintings, sculptures, and poetry.

“I love pumpkins. Since my childhood, they have been my spiritual home. The pumpkin’s deep humanity and unpretentiousness have always provided peace to my mind. Such pumpkins are a song of praise to humanity.” — Yayoi Kusama, “On Pumpkins”, 2010

The pumpkin design on the bag is created through screen-printing, with blue and green tones on the front and red, orange, and yellow on the back, offering contrasting aesthetics that can be switched according to mood.
