The Iconic Speedy Bag
The legendary Louis Vuitton Speedy leather travel bag was born in 1930, designed by the brand’s third-generation heir Gaston-Louis Vuitton. Originally named the “Express” bag, it drew inspiration from the era’s fascination with speed and automobiles. Based on the Keepall travel bag blueprint, it adopted a more compact, handbag-friendly size that could be flattened and carried inside luggage.
In 1959, the Speedy was reintroduced in Monogram canvas, attracting celebrity endorsements from figures like Audrey Hepburn. In 1965, Louis Vuitton created the smaller Speedy 25 specifically for Hepburn’s petite frame. With its timeless design, practical functionality and accessible pricing, the Speedy has remained one of Louis Vuitton’s most iconic and best-selling “it bags” for nearly a century.
Naming & Design Inspiration
The new Speedy P9 debuted in Men’s Creative Director Pharrell Williams’ Spring-Summer 2024 menswear collection. Its name references the season’s runway location – Paris’s Pont Neuf (P9), while drawing design inspiration from Pharrell’s fashion roots in the multicultural energy of New York’s Canal Street. The bag’s soft silhouette and vibrant colors pay homage to heritage while pointing toward the future.

Craftsmanship Details
The bag features a supple grainy calf leather exterior with premium lambskin lining, maintaining the classic Speedy’s trapezoidal structure. Its flexible construction allows the base to fold naturally during daily use.
The butter-soft calfskin comes in high-saturation blue, with contrasting white Monogram patterns applied via precision screen-printing. The intentionally blurred “Sergé” lettering creates a hand-painted artistic effect.
Signature LV accessories include tubular handles, luggage tag, and key pouch in VVN leather. Leather piping outlines the edges, while the zipper pull can be secured to side metal clasps with a safety lock. Antique brass hardware bears engraved LOUIS VUITTON logos, with every detail meticulously crafted.
Inside, a removable zippered pouch in matching leather attaches to D-rings for organizing small items or serving as a compact clutch. Each bag features a customizable metal plaque engraved with collection season, dimensions, and Pharrell Williams’ debut theme “The Sun Is Shining on Us”, enhancing exclusivity and collectibility.
