HERMÈS 2025 Spring/Summer Collection: The Revolutionary Birkin à l’envers
HERMÈS presents the all-new Birkin à l’envers bag in its 2025 Spring/Summer collection. This groundbreaking design reimagines the classic Birkin with an inside-out, upside-down construction, showcasing the bag’s interior craftsmanship while delivering a fresh visual statement.

· The History of Birkin Bag ·
The Birkin bag, often referred to as the “ultimate status bag,” was born in 1984 and named after the British actress and fashion icon Jane Birkin.

The story began in 1981 when Jane Birkin happened to sit next to Hermès CEO Jean-Louis Dumas on a flight. As she struggled with her bag’s contents spilling out, she casually mentioned the need for a better-designed women’s bag. Dumas immediately sketched ideas with her, leading to the creation of this iconic bag.
Since its debut, the Birkin has become the most coveted and valuable handbag in the world, prized for its exquisite craftsmanship, timeless design, and exclusivity.

· Design Inspiration ·
The Birkin à l’envers made its debut in the 2025 Spring/Summer women’s collection. This season’s theme “Inside the Workshop” celebrates Hermès’ artisanal heritage and innovative spirit by revealing the creative process behind each masterpiece.
The name “à l’envers” (French for “inside out”) perfectly describes this revolutionary design. The interior zippered pocket becomes an exterior feature, the iconic Touret closure moves to the back, and the combination of leather and canvas highlights the bag’s architectural structure.
This innovative design not only refreshes the Birkin’s aesthetic but also improves functionality. The open tote style features an exterior zippered pocket and back pocket for easy access, with capacity for an iPad mini-sized item.
The signature Touret closure has been moved to the interior, while the leather strap still adjusts the bag’s opening for added security.

· Materials & Craftsmanship ·
The Birkin’s legendary status comes from its impeccable craftsmanship. Each bag is handmade by artisans with over 5 years of experience, requiring more than 40 hours of meticulous work.
This Birkin à l’envers features golden brown Barénia Faubourg calfskin paired with natural H canvas and contrast stitching. The mixed materials highlight the bag’s structural lines while adding a casual elegance.

All Hermès bags feature the traditional Saddle Stitch technique – a century-old method requiring perfect precision that can only be done by hand, ensuring durability for generations.
The base features leather trim and protective metal feet to maintain the bag’s shape and prevent wear.

· What Fits Inside? ·

The classic 35cm size offers generous space while maintaining elegant proportions. We comfortably fit a MacBook, iPhone, makeup pouch, notebook, and other essentials with room to spare.
