The PRADA 1913 Bag debuted in the 2024 Spring/Summer women’s collection, drawing inspiration from Mario Prada’s 1913 archival design. While the original was crafted from moiré silk, this contemporary version features black soft leather and recycled nylon, with pleating techniques creating cloud-like volume that reinterprets archival designs through a modern lens.

Prada Brothers History

In 1913, Mario & Martino Prada founded Fratelli Prada in Milan. An avid traveler, Mario Prada journeyed worldwide sourcing exotic items and materials, collaborating with European artisans to create luxury objects he called “oggetti di lusso” – including British silverware, Austrian handbags, Bohemian crystal, and Asian silks.

Mythological Clasp Detail

The most striking feature is the hand-carved wooden mythological figure clasp, reportedly inspired by “the mysterious ancient Eastern culture,” reflecting 19th century Western fascination with Orientalism. The tongue-protruding mythical figure finds parallels in Japanese yokai lore and Chinese Taoist mythology.
