The Petite Malle V handbag from Louis Vuitton’s Fall/Winter 2022 collection showcases an innovative design approach – based on the classic small trunk silhouette, featuring an inverted “V” extension structure on the sides, topped with a handle, and adorned with a golden mother-of-pearl body and gold-engraved metal clasp, resembling a dazzling jewelry box.

The Petite Malle V handbag was one of the highlights of Louis Vuitton’s Fall/Winter 2022 collection, themed “Poetry of Adolescence”, designed by Women’s Creative Director Nicolas Ghesquière, showcasing the free-spirited dressing nature of adolescent girls.

The Petite Malle V bag evolved from the Petite Malle small trunk released in Fall/Winter 2014, with its original design inspiration coming from the brand’s 1929 photography case. The classic “Petite Malle” small trunk features a sturdy three-dimensional square box silhouette, opening at approximately a 45° angle.

The new “Petite Malle V” features a cut-out structure on the sides – viewed from the side, the bag resembles two vertically leaning panels, forming an isosceles triangle structure, with the middle leather naturally folding into an inverted “V” crease. This not only provides more internal space but also exudes a strong architectural style.

Additionally, the bag features a new arched handle, adding another carrying option to the small trunk.

· Golden Mother-of-Pearl ·

The most stunning aspect of this handbag is the golden mother-of-pearl embedded in the body. Naturally extracted shells, after dyeing and resin coating, exhibit a soft yet luxurious luster, reminiscent of a golden palace or a radiant treasure chest.

The frame, trim, sides, handle, and strap details are all made of saddle brown calfskin, with a delicate and supple texture, resembling the frame of a classical oil painting.

· Hardware Elements ·

The most eye-catching feature is the iconic “Tumbler trunk lock”, where the designer specially used gold engraving to create three-dimensional patterns on the brass surface. The winding, short lines make the clasp resemble crumpled gold foil, adding to its dazzling appeal.

The history of this lock dates back to 1886. To ensure trunk security, LV invented the “Tumbler lock” system with two spring buckles and a single lock, offering customers personalized locks with unique numbers. All of a customer’s trunks could be opened with the same key, a system still in use today.

· How to Wear This Bag ·

The bag still comes with a detachable & adjustable brown slim leather strap, allowing it to be worn as a shoulder bag or crossbody, perfect for casual outfits and occasions.

Considering the bag’s structure might be inconvenient for hand-carrying, the designer specially added a top handle. Carrying it by hand or on the arm adds a touch of elegance and sophistication, making it suitable for dresses or evening wear.

· What Can This Bag Hold? ·

The interior features exquisite nude lambskin lining, with one side adorned with the classic LV Malletage diamond pattern print.

Compared to the classic small trunk, this bag’s base offers more expandability, providing more internal space. We’ve placed essentials like a notebook, perfume, lipstick, earphones, and phone inside. LV also thoughtfully includes a detachable brown calfskin zip pouch.
