LOEWE’s iconic Puzzle Bag introduces new color combinations for Fall/Winter 2022, featuring marble green and light oat satin calfskin. The contrasting hues highlight the bag’s distinctive geometric lines, while the low-saturation neutral palette offers timeless elegance.
Design Inspiration
The Puzzle Bag was Jonathan Anderson’s first handbag design as LOEWE’s creative director, debuting at the Spring/Summer 2015 menswear show. Inspired by jigsaw puzzles, the design transforms flat geometric leather pieces into a three-dimensional bag through expert craftsmanship, balancing LOEWE’s heritage with avant-garde aesthetics.

“I set out to find a new way of building a bag, fundamentally questioning its structure. It was about deconstructing a conventional bag to create a flat object with a tri-dimensional function.”
Craftsmanship
Each Puzzle Bag comprises over 90 components, requiring hand or laser cutting of leather into precisely calculated geometric shapes. Through 524 steps including edge painting, assembly, stitching and shaping, even master artisans with 50 years experience need at least 10 hours to complete one bag.
The Anagram Motif
The flap corner and hardware feature LOEWE’s signature Anagram motif, designed by Spanish artist Vicente Vela in 1970 with four interlocking L’s. Updated in 2014 by Jonathan Anderson with M/M Paris, the current version features cleaner, more contemporary typography.
Marble Green & Light Oat Colorway
The “Marble Green” (Autumn Green) and “Light Oat” color combination evokes Van Gogh’s wheat fields. The low-saturation neutral palette offers year-round versatility for all genders.
Carrying Options
True to its name, the Puzzle Bag offers multiple carrying styles: handheld, shoulder, crossbody, or clutch. The removable, adjustable leather strap accommodates different body types and outfits.
Capacity & Practicality
Despite its compact 24×16.5×10.5cm dimensions, the small Puzzle Bag offers practical storage. The back features a zippered pocket along the color-block seam, while the interior boasts herringbone cotton canvas lining with a leather label.
